Three Typologies Study

To investigate the question previously stated, the site was investigated through three loose typology ideals: the cantilever; the continuous interior; and the podium tower. Through a quick axonometric diagram, each typology was studied through a different variance of form and connection to the High Line. For the first two typologies, the study was confined to the single corner site adjacent to the High Line. This proved to be very limiting in terms of achieving this idea of expansion and compression to its fullest potential. Thus, with the third typology, the tower podium, the study was extended to neighboring lots both across 26th Street and the High Line as well. Each typology was further developed through a quick series of drawings and models as seen below.
This study allowed clarity in the driving question and spurred further development into one of the studied schemes. After this study, it was determined that the most successful proposal was that of the tower podium which was extended beyond the original site. This allows for the creation of a horizontal expansion of the High Line while still engaging it fully. Furthermore, it intensifies the feeling of compression but in the vertical direction creating a voided, exterior space allowing for a common interface between the form and High Line.
