(page still under construction) The focus of this fifth year studio is on the development of urban, spatial interfaces within an elevated system. This proposal is situated on the intersection of the High Line with West 26th Street. This is the only section of the High Line that has a fly-over walkway. Unlike the first section of the High Line, this area if very narrow, dense and long. It has few moments of pause or rest and no program common to the first section of the High Line, such as vendors. This area is very compressed in the horizontal direction but very expansive to the sky.
The question which drives this proposal is "How do I create moment of pause and slow down the traffic without losing the expansive and compressed qualities which currently exist in this area?" The investigation of this question follows in a series of studies which have led to a better understanding of both this question and urban, spatial interfaces as well.
